Reserve Service — Building Foundations

While attending college, Josh volunteered as a Reserve Deputy with the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office and as a Reserve Police Officer with the Spring City Police Department, gaining early experience in patrol operations and corrections.

2004 — Rhea County Sheriff’s Office

Began full-time service as a Corrections Deputy and later promoted to Patrol Deputy, gaining firsthand knowledge of jail operations, patrol response, and county-wide enforcement.

2006 — Dayton Police Department

Joined Dayton PD, serving in patrol roles before advancing into supervision. Also served as a School Resource Officer at Bryan College, building experience in school safety and community-based policing.

Today — Patrol Sergeant

Oversees patrol operations, trains new officers, assists with scheduling and planning, and serves as the Reporting Agency Coordinator for TBI crime data compliance while managing departmental report systems.

Everyday Calls

Traffic stops, crashes (including fatal and hit-and-run), thefts, burglaries, vandalism, scams, fraud, and routine community complaints.

Interagency Coordination

Experience working joint investigations and coordinating with state and federal partners, including complex cases involving exploitation and trafficking.

Safer outcomes depend on preparation, training, and partnerships — especially when mental health is involved.

CIT Certified

Certified Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officer, trained to respond to mental health-related calls with safety and care.
